Launching a New Era with the Vision of a "Productive Library"

The Balıkesir Provincial Public Library, which was inaugurated with the participation of Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, transcended the traditional library approach and began operating with the vision of a "productive library." This new approach transforms libraries from mere places of information to multifaceted living spaces that respond to individuals' needs for learning, production, and socialization.
The library, with its 5,650-square-meter usable area, stands out with its 105,000-book capacity. This modern facility, capable of serving 770 people simultaneously, is equipped with various sections, including baby and children's sections, youth and adult reading rooms, group study areas, and internet and multimedia rooms. Additionally, the library offers facilities such as experimentation workshops, chemistry, mathematics, and intelligence workshops, a conference hall, a portable cinema, a periodical section, and a city library.
This transformation also contributes to the strengthening of Balıkesir's existing library network. Over the past five years, new library investments have been implemented and existing libraries modernized in districts such as Edremit, Havran, İvrindi, Dursunbey, Marmara Island, Saraylar, and Burhaniye. Currently, there are 26 public libraries throughout Balıkesir, and these libraries also serve rural areas through mobile libraries.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Ersoy stated that these projects not only facilitate access to information but also aim to increase individual productivity and strengthen social solidarity. "We know that every investment in information is actually building tomorrow," he said, emphasizing that such projects will significantly contribute to the country's cultural and social development.
